It's good to be blogging again, this one is going to be very relevant to many of our situations in life, I hope!

They say we define our personalities by the environment around us, and learn each day from the day things start making sense to us until the end of our lives.

Making sense of  or deriving the meanings of what we see, hear, experience and our responses to any situation is actually half of our life spent.

Abraham Maslow, an American psychologist who is famous for his theory "Maslow's need hierarchy", has put self-actualization needs at the top of his psychological pyramid.

We can culminate many vital aspects and facts from this theory, I wish to share some of them today, and also link it with our thinking.

The synopsis of his theory is: A person will look upon five types of needs in his journey of life. The first one being psychological needs which is the primary food, clothing and shelter.

Next comes the safety needs which is the security needed to lead a peaceful life, followed by love and belongingness from his people then the esteem needs, the person expects others to appreciate him, which is called superego.

Finally, at the end of the pyramid, we have the self-actualization need which is considered as the ultimate stage a person can reach where all his other obligations are in abundance and now he or she contemplates about higher and philosophical matters like divinity, soul and God and also materialistic matters like a grand house and a celebrity life!

Well, that is the simplest way I could think to explain this theory.

 

Now let's try to put some practicality, by keeping our thoughts as reference.

Imagine a tramp, who wanders on the streets and beseeches for money and eats just one time a day, what do you think his thinking scope would be, well we can say it would not reach more than the psychological needs mark.

Another instance let us think about a more economically stable person who is leading a family life, his Maslow index (as referred by Abraham Maslow) will be love and belongingness.

 Sorry, imagine again, a wealthy man who is famous as a celebrity, what do you think his Maslow index would be? It will definitely reach the self-actualization mark.

 I think even though the theory is so simple, it teaches us so much more to make our lives more understanding from a psychological and behavioural point of view.

We think because we have the liberty, time and energy to think, because for us most of the things which are actually basic is taken care of by our family who helps you get minimum education which makes you feel confident and help you achieve your goals.

Your job or business helps you to earn your bread, your friends who are there for you to listen to your problems and also share your happiness, your doctor to take care of your health, the list is always endless, this endless list of people who are there to for  you during the crusts and troughs of your life, is what gives you the confidence to think!

The crux is you are governed by the limit of your thinking ability, and that ability and limit is set by the current status/ standard of your living and the people around you, that's the hard truth.

Yes! of course for any theory there will be  exceptions, similarly for this theory the exception I can think of is , the  brilliant people around the world who were so determined that they could achieve whatever they dreamed of because of their will and determination! Superseding the needs in the pyramid at the cost of their sacrifices.

But to accept a conceptualization as a theory, the sampling test should be a positive value, which means most (50% or more of the sample) qualify under the premise of this model.

So for all the arrogantly proud people who think they are the kings and queens and can think and do whatever they wish to.They must remember they dare to do so because and only because of their support systems around them which makes things work for them!

  So it's better to be humble, which helps you to reach the summit of the Maslow pyramid!

Every day we come across many people, we communicate and try to understand them.

This process of communication is called encoding and decoding the message by the sender and receiver.

Each time we communicate with each other  we find out who they are some people call it judging them, well I would not like to use the word judge as it may mean judge him as good or bad or judge him based on his race which may not feel right.

But irrespective of whether you want it or not, we. Can atleast accept that we would know the nature of people if we communicate with them regularly.

Among all the people you communicate with, you would have met some men and women who are comparatively outspoken than the rest of the crowd, and you seem to start liking their style of communication.

There is a chance that person may be a wannabe!

So is being a wannabe, instead of saying good or bad let us put it as useful and useless.

According to me, I think it is useful if you are serious about what you are talking about.

For example, a person wants to start a  business, first of all, he needs to do a viability check to see if he is has the aptitude and management skills to take this up, followed by knowledge and the Acumen to make that business a grand success.

There are innumerable examples which I can quote, or you could come up with, but the essence of this discussion is not to become a wannabe and finally end up on achieving in life.

More importantly in your struggle to reach your goal, don't let the happiness of the people around fade away or make it shallow, the simple reason is that even your liberty to think and breath was given to you by your progenitors!

Then there is a flip side, with a lack of knowledge and ego issues in discussing the business, he or she might finally end up just becoming a wannabe.

There are many postulants around you just watch and learn and please don't become one. Instead, work smart, put all your efforts to reach your real goals and set an example for the people around you and make your mark even after you are gone.

Nullity- The concept of Śūnyatā

For long-time readers of my blog, I will assure this blog won’t come as a surprise, as I have always been a person with an analytical mindset.

When I say an analytical mindset, there are different meanings for this word, sometimes systematic means being mathematical, but in my case, this is not what am trying to refer, is I am not too much math savvy!

 For me, analytical is a logical investigation of the world around me.

There is this concept of Sunya (Zero) which I wanted to discuss today, so let’s begin!

 Before writing about this topic, I did some research which was quite exciting and very informative and gave me a lot of insights about the brilliant cultures, which is the result the computing era exists today!

Long ago more than 3600 years ago there lived a famous mathematician and scientist in India his name was Aryabhata, and he was known for his brilliant knowledge in the fields of algebra, trigonometry, and astronomy he is in fact known in some of the scientific communities as the father of “Zero” or which was called place holder during his time as explained by a French mathematician who has given him full credit for this phenomenal concept of the number zero and the place value system in mathematics.

“The place-value system, first seen in the 3rd-century Bakhshali Manuscript was clearly in place in his work. While he did not use a symbol for zero, the French mathematician Georges Ifrah argues that knowledge of zero was implicit in Aryabhata’s place-value system as a place holder for the powers of ten with null coefficients.

However, Aryabhata did not use the Brahmi numerals. Continuing the Sanskritic tradition from Vedic times, he used letters of the alphabet to denote numbers, expressing quantities, such as the table of sines in a mnemonic form.

Can we imagine the binary system would seize to exist without a zero, and if there were no zero, the whole computer system would never have existed!

Well, thinking about the zero and its importance, I also came across this concept called sunya or void, or it is called emptiness.

Just a heads up I am switching gears from Aryabhata to the concept of Sunyata.

The concept is prevalent in many cultures like the Advaita Vedanta of Hinduism, Buddhism and Shaivism explains as the emptiness or total of everything leads to emptiness or void, so this life is a  Maya or the illusion (the needs, wants and desires) which we all run to achieve in the prime age of our life.

Quoting from the book (Jaideva Singh, Vijnanabhairava or Divine Consciousness: A Treasury of 112 Types of Yoga, page 55)

“The Absolute void is Bhairava ( Lord Shiva)  who is beyond the senses and the mind, beyond all the categories of these instruments. From human minds, He is most void. from Reality, He is full, for He is the source of all manifestation.”

“The yogi should concentrate intensely on the idea (and also feel) that this universe is void. In that void, his mind would become absorbed. Then he becomes highly qualified for absorption, i.e. his mind is incorporated in the absolute void (sunyatisunya).

I read another book written by Sri Aurobindo Gosh, where he says the five forces created us and we go back to the five sources! And that moment there is that emptiness which makes all your achievements all your egoistic practices, your highs and lows, your good deeds and the bad ones just dissolve within these five sources, and yet what stay behind is the memories of you in the minds of others whom you wished well! and the karma which you carryon to your next januma (rebirth).

I agree the concept is too heavy for a beautiful Sunday morning, but I feel someone should blow the whistle!

These truths are needed to be told more than ever now and repeated to this generation Y who are brilliant and budding with talent but are boarding wrong trains and buses in their lives and getting lost in jargons or a herd of greedy non-thinking fools.

If we think and try to lead our lives in with the concept of Sunyata in mind, we would behave more matured in situations and show this society that there is something beyond these two curtains of materialism and emotions.

Meeting of Minds

I hope this blog finds you well.

Continuing from where I left on my previous blog.

I would like to repeat, to be happy at this moment now, there are many people behind that smile, so let us all try to be thankful for this society and the people who wish for peace and prosperity of others.

The word patriot originates from French patriote, from Late Latin patriota' fellow countryman', from Greek patriōtēs

We all are definitely happy with the idea of patriotism, yes because we all love to protect the place we were born and the people in it, we enjoy the bond of belongingness to this place.

The next feeling that is coming to my mind is now the valour, the courage, the motivation and the sacrifice those heroic souls displayed and gave up their bodies to protect their motherland.

The families of these brave men are like a diamond which withstands hard blows of the pain of losing their sons and daughters and still shine brightly and continue to promote their next generations to serve and protect.

But sometimes I feel, and always this question haunts my mind, are these sacrifices worth, the bloodshed, the lives lost and the apathy?

Why can't the party men who have high power to control the future of this world not only concerning humans but also assume that they have an influence on the fate of millions of innocent animals and plants, think about the word called "Harmony".

In the following paragraphs have tried to explain why.

I would not like to use this word religion because of the era we are currently in is the media world where words like, "Jumla", "right, left and centre" is imposed on anyone or everyone who want to talk freely with no such intentions as well!

Therefore I would use the word "Dharma" or duty which the three great books of the world try to tell its readers to achieve is "follow your dharma and maintain harmony and be immersed in the thoughts of a higher power, the spirit, god or positivity as the atheists want to call it  or whatever you feel keeps this world going forward and maintain unity among mankind and promote Humanity.

In a famous movie called "JFK" which is based on the the true story of the infamous assassination of President of USA John F Kennedy and the heroic legal battle of the  D.A (District attorney) Mr Jim Garrison who contested the great president's brutal murder in a court of law to prove it was a conspiracy.

Even though all his efforts went in vain, it was a landmark move by itself that he attempted to contest against the state and was an eye-opener to the people of the United States itself.

There is a particular scene in the movie where the D.A meets a black ops agent who replies when the D.A asks "I can't believe he was killed because he wanted to change things in our time, in our age"?

The agent replies "The The organising principle of any society is war, Mr. Garrison! The authority of the state over its people resides in its war powers! Yes, kings are killed politics is power nothing more! Because he (JFK) wanted to stop the moon race, ban nuclear testing and wanted to withdraw the war (the Vietnam War)".

Further continues by saying "please understand Mr. Garrison    when those orders were withdrawn there was no meaning remember no war, no money!"

Dear readers I don't feel the black ops commando exaggerated any part of his statement, I think this is the world in which we have all ended up in each country wants to compete with another in the lines of arms, blood money, superiority and so on to the extent that it can end the lives of its own leaders!

I feel these are all disabilities of the party people or the great powers of the human world who impose it on their people.

Why can't we leave the war and live?  The happy part is that currently, we are in an almost peaceful era in the whole of world history or what they call modern History! But it isn't enough we need to progress, and all the countries of the world need to work together and take it forward and try to make our dear blue planet the most peaceful place in the known universe.

The trends are changing In the blogging culture, in the beginning, when the blogs started at offices circulating to inform the ongoing happenings at the workplace.

Today Google making it a World Wide Web site and allowing users to present their thoughts in the form of informal journals or a structured story illustrated with pictures I think is simply exceptional.

I have come across fantastic travel blogs, and the latest addition in this segment is called as VLOG! Which is a video log, which is a person taking you through and becoming your eyes for that place?

What I am trying today is reversing the  process I want to share my experience of a documentary which I watched recently it is called "In the shadow of the moon."

Ok, let us begin:

Back here in the US John .F Kennedy, the then president makes an indispensable speech in the Congress saying that the Americans would land a man on the Moon in the next Decade!

There begins the NASA moon mission saga which leads to the successful 6 moon landings, and those crews are the only till date to go to deep space and land and walk an alien place doesn't it sound fantastic!

The documentary describes the highs and the lows of the entire mission, and what effort it takes to put people in space, and remember this was not the silicon chip era where printed circuit boards were at full speed, there were a lot of analogue computers, with which they have achieved this goal.

The 3 men who made the impossible were, Neil Alden Armstrong, Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. (Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins)

In July 1969, Armstrong and Apollo 11 Lunar Module pilot Buzz Aldrin became the first people to land on the Moon and spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command and service module. When Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface, he famously said: "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." Along with Collins and Aldrin, Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon. President Jimmy Carter presented Armstrong with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, and Armstrong and his former crewmates received a Congressional Gold Medal in 2009. After a brief into the lives of the above Astronauts, we see the lunar module training and the tragic Apollo 1 accident when the 3 astronauts were charred to death to a spark triggered in a 100% oxygen chamber, which is still regarded as one of the most tragic and worst accidents in NASA's history.

After these lessons were learnt and finally, the launch day arrived, and Apollo 11  with all the hopes of mankind soared in the skies, and the rest, as we all know, is history.

I stop at that about the documentary the entire beauty of it is best enjoyed by watching it.

What I liked most about this feature is that the real value of determination, patriotism and the willingness to achieve the impossible is incredible.

We all need to follow and take these people as examples in our lives and always be motivated, never tiring attitude, which will finally help us lead a life with some meaning.

Please remember we are all fortunate to be alive today and to live this moment now in peace, there are efforts of many people behind your smile.

So make the most of our life and make the best out of it and try to set examples like these brave astronauts who are the only people till date to set foot on an unknown alien heavenly body!

Twelve people have walked on the Moon, starting with Neil Armstrong and ending with Gene Cernan. All crewed lunar landings took place between July 1969 and December 1972 as part of the Apollo program.
